We are just one week away from our first race in the Porsche 914. We have a lot of work left to do but the car is nearing the finish line. Seems the second gear synchro is out and I am already predicting a possible transmission swap during the race.
Took the car to a local autocross to do the first test drives. A few problems have been discovered but the car survived. It was a good push to get things done so that the car could pass tech at the autocross.
The Hot Wheels Datsun 510 race car originally only came in Blue, Black and Gold. Now they have come out with a color that matches our car completely.
The last of the cage was finished today. Now that the minimum requirements are getting taken car of work can progress on getting the rest of the car ready.
The cage is really coming along. A large channel has been placed on each side and the cage was mounted to that. The rear shocks were completely shot have been replaced as well as a set of cheap fender flares.
The old rusted floor has been cut out and a new one is welded in 1″ lower than the original giving more headroom for the driver.
After some cleanup of the ignition and work on the Weber carburetor the car is in fine running order and once a set of belts are fitted it will ready for some testing at the local SCCA autocross.
The holes in the floors of the Datsun have been patched over. Previously it would have been pretty easy for the driver’s leg to fall through the floor and be torn off.
